Mallards Cottage

Mallards is part of a lovely range of traditional, 17th-century, chalk and flint barns, which have been converted into cottages full of character, set in their own maintained grounds at Manor Farm in the village of Thornham on the North Norfolk Coast. The area is noted for its natural beauty, wildlife and relaxed atmosphere. North Norfolk has one of the sunniest climates and lowest levels of rainfall in the UK.

Mallards in late Autumn, Winter and early Spring is an ideal location for a winter break away from the hubbub of town life with bracing walks on sunny crisp days along empty beaches and rolling countryside, to return to a comfortable cottage, and relax in the warmth of a wood burning stove. Outside the peak tourist season the landscape is able to exude its natural charm and the ancient villages, places of interest and market towns are better appreciated in these quieter times.

Mallards sleeps eight people with twin beds in a double bedroom downstairs, two double bedrooms with double beds upstairs, plus a bunk bedroom suitable for children and adults. Further accommodation for an infant is also provided with a travel cot.

The ground floor consists of a convivial open plan kitchen and large living room area with exposed beams, wooden floors, inglenook fireplace and wood-burning stove for which fuel is available at local shops in Thornham. The downstairs twin bedroom is separated from a walk in shower room with WC by a lobby. This spacious shower is equipped with gripper rails and a seat. The easy access from bedroom to shower room is popular with our less mobile guests. Upstairs the bathroom, equipped with a WC, bath, and shower attachment faces onto a landing as do the bedrooms. Both bath and shower rooms are equipped with heated towel rails.

The kitchen is equipped with a fridge freezer, dishwasher, electric cooker with oven, microwave, toaster, kettle, coffee maker and washer dryer. The living room is equipped with free WiFi, multichannel TV, DVD, CD/Radio and wood burning stove in the inglenook fireplace. The large farmhouse kitchen table seats eight people and a high chair is stored on the ground floor. A clothes horse is also provided.

Sliding doors in the lounge open onto the enclosed front lawned garden which catches the morning sun. The rear yard is also enclosed, paved, catches the evening sun and has a standing barbecue built into the wall for which fuel is available locally. Ample outside seating is provided front and back. To the front parking is available for four cars. Well behaved pets are welcome. Linen and towels are provided free of charge.
